Brightness night: the link with cancer

Monday, July 26th, 2010

The night worker, the latest layer or insomniac would be at greater risk of cancer than people sleeping early and especially in a completely dark?

As noted by Dr. George Brainard, a professor of neurology at Thomas Jefferson University who has studied for 20 years the effects of light on human biology, humanity has lived without electric light over thousands and thousands years. The human body is made to be active during the sunny hours of the day, and is made to sleep during the dark of night.

The modern world has changed the rules of nature. The man now has an artificial nighttime lighting, especially strong in large urban centers, and business habits have changed, many people in jobs where hours of work may be the night, let alone night owls who stay active and awake until the wee hours of the morning.

This rhythm of life goes completely against the normal biological rhythms, called circadian rhythm. An internal rhythm, alternating between action and rest, wakefulness and sleep. This natural rhythm that is synchronized with the natural light of day and night. (more…)

stress

Cancer. According to Luciano Sposato, codirector of the Center for Stroke Favaloro Foundation, the study does not confirm the effect of stress in this disease. But animal studies have shown that chronic stress weakens the defense and creates greater susceptibility to certain cancers. Chronic stress affects the neuroendocrine circuits by changing the system that protects against genetic mutations predisposing to certain cancers. Scientists have shown that cancer patients that stress and negative feelings less chance of recovery.

Heart attack. Chronic stress accelerate the emergence of cholesterol plaque in the arteries of the heart. A life less healthy, low physical activity, poor diet and lack of sleep could explain this relationship. acute stress situations such as traffic or death against a family member can trigger heart attacks.

Effect of The Use of X-Ray

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Broken bones, severe injuries on the head, coronary artery blockage is a condition that can be made to be viewed through the X-ray and there is no doubt at all because the appearance is very useful when used properly.

On the other hand taking pictures with the X-ray can cause cancer. Therefore the patient was advised to ask for the critical things about the X-ray prior to treatment using X-ray

X-ray radiation produces ions which also occurs naturally. Effective dose received by humans that can be measured by the size millisiverts, the unit of measure of radiation.

The average number of normal X-ray exposure is 2.1 millisievert per year, said by the Institute of Radiation Protection in Salzgitter, Germany.
If an X-ray exposure patient of 0.03 to 0.1 milliesievert, then it does not mean that the patient received X-ray light levels
Any exposure to X-ray radiation and means there is no restriction where the damage can be avoided.

Sleep is necessary to help the body regenerate and this means that one of its most vital organs, the brain. Sleep is necessary to enable it to restore to continue to perform at optimum levels. Sleep deprivation can affect your decision as does alcohol while driving.

After long periods of wakefulness or reduced sleep, neurons in the brain begin to misfire and visible this can affect a person’s behavior. This also affects a person’s overall health. Sleep temporary loss difficult to monitor and sustained attention.

With decreased sleep, higher-order cognitive tasks are more difficult to perform. The testing involved both accuracy and speed makes it difficult, while hampering the speed and accuracy is challenged to a limit. All that the person with sleep deprivation trying to achieve is disproportionate to what would normally be completed. The inability to concentrate may be because people are using some of their brains resources to fight the urge to sleep. (more…)

olive oil

Benefits of olive oil in the prevention and treatment of breast cancer
Javier Menendez Spanish scientist, specialist in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Research Institute of Northwestern Health Chicago (USA) confirmed at the genetic level the benefits of olive oil in the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.

The study’s findings, which also participated Ramon Colomer, head of the Division of Medical Oncology, Catalan Institute of Oncology, published in the latest issue of the Annals of Oncology ‘.

Spanish scientists have demonstrated in laboratory experiments on different cell lines of breast cancer that oleic acid, the main component of olive oil, greatly reduced levels of an oncogene called Her-2/neu. High levels of Her-2/neu (also known as erb B-2) are found in approximately 20-30% of breast cancer patients and are associated with highly aggressive tumors that have a poor prognosis.
