How is a Temazcal?

The bath house is a small building, closed, dark and with a very narrow entrance. Some resemble an igloo or a bread ovens. The floor is dirt and is usually lower than abroad. Steam is produced with an infusion of medicinal plants on red-hot stones. Of course in every area of the country we can see differences in how the temazcal and the ceremony performed inside.

How is a Temazcal?

The Temazcal is more than just a steam bath as it is, in itself, any ceremony or ritual purification. The temazcalero, Healer or Shaman guides the search process and physical cleansing, emotional and spiritual.

Temazcal is the womb of the mother and therefore, naked, and we entered a narrow, dark hole. Inside is warm and well stocked. It is in this space where we feel protected, where we can begin a ceremony to cleanse us and transform us. We want to go out again (rebirth) being a new person.

Once outside take a shower is recommended to stay cool and relaxed (and preferably silent) to internalize the whole experience.
